About Motherkind
Motherkind is our maternal health campaign which aims to support new and expectant mothers in some of the most high-risk countries.
99%
of maternal deaths occur in developing countries
840
women die each day from preventable causes
1 million
children are left motherless every year
Our Mission
According to WHO, lack of access to good quality healthcare is fundamentally responsible for the vast majority of maternal deaths. Hundreds of women are dying every day from preventable causes related to pregnancy and childbirth.
The solution is simple: we need to provide new and expectant women with better and more accessible medical care.
Our Motherkind projects have included facilitating training for midwives, running educational workshops in villages throughout Yemen, Bangladesh, and establishing specialised maternal health clinics in Afghanistan and Somalia.
Our Afghanistan clinic alone assists around 44,000 people each year. Building on this success and the achievements of our clinic in Somalia, our goal is to establish a network of clinics throughout high risk areas like Afghanistan, as well as continuing with the good work we have carried out in other developing countries.
How We Help
Healthcare Access
Better and more accessible healthcare includes sufficient resources, trained professionals, and a programme which covers the full spectrum of needs faced by women and their children.
Training Health Workers
We train midwives and community health workers who understand the local context and can provide culturally sensitive care to mothers in their communities.
Maternal Health Clinics
Specialized clinics in Afghanistan, Somalia, Yemen, and Bangladesh provide essential medical care for expectant and new mothers in high-risk areas.
Educational Workshops
Running educational workshops in villages to empower mothers with knowledge about pregnancy, childbirth, and postnatal care.
βWe have enjoined on man kindness to his parents; in pain did his mother bear him, and in pain did she give him birthβ
